Imaging of Occupational and Environmental Disorders of the Chest

Imaging of Occupational and Environmental Disorders of the Chest
Book Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540213430
Book author: P.A . Gevenois, P. De Vuyst

Book Description:
The spectrum of occupational and environmental diseases has changed markedly in recent years. New industrial processes have led to the production and use of a wide range of chemicals, metals, and alloys, an increasing number of which have been reported to cause interstitial lung disease in exposed workers. Thus, while the workforce in coal mining and asbestos handling has decreased, new groups of workers are at risk of exposure to agents potentially responsible for pneumoconiosis. This well-illustrated book, written by internationally acclaimed experts, provides a comprehensive approach to modern imaging of environmental and occupational diseases of the chest. The first part of the book addresses the basic knowledge required to understand imaging in this context, while the second focuses on the imaging results achieved in a variety of specific disorders. There is particular emphasis on thin-section computed tomography since this technique facilitates the detection of early subclinical abnormalities.

Summary:
This practical MR imaging atlas covers all aspects of pediatric brain and spine imaging including contemporary techniques such as diffusion imaging, fetal imaging and MR spectroscopy. The book consists of 12 chapters, starting with the developing pediatric brain and continuing with metabolic, congenital, genetic, traumatic, inflammatory and neoplastic processes of the brain and spine. Each entity is comprehensively illustrated with multiple top-quality images and accompanied by clinical history, a short discussion and the most pertinent references. There are extensive illustrations of MR imaging of child abuse. The authors are currently all at the University of Rochester, New York, but have long experience of pediatric neuroradiology from an international perspective, which guarantees a broad view of the subject. The book is valuable for radiologists, pediatricians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroscientists and pediatric neurologists, as well as for physicians in training in these areas. This richly illustrated atlas is a quick clinical reference for all involved in pediatric neuroimaging.

Enhancing the Role of Ultrasound with Contrast Agents

Enhancing the Role of Ultrasound with Contrast Agents

user posted image

Book Description
The introduction of microbubble contrast agents and the development of contrast-specific scanning techniques have opened new prospects in ultrasound. The advent of second-generation agents – that enable real-time contrast-enhanced imaging – has been instrumental in improving the acceptance and the reproducibility of examinations. Contrast ultrasound substantially improves detection and characterization of focal liver lesions with respect to baseline studies, and has already been introduced in international guidelines for the diagnosis of liver tumors. The role of contrast agents in vascular ultrasound is also established, and several new clinical applications are emerging. This book, written by the leading experts in the field, provides an up-to-date overview on the clinical value of contrast agents in ultrasound. The volume moves from a background section on technique and methodology to the main sections on the clinical application of contrast ultrasound in the liver and in vascular diseases. A final section discusses results and prospects of contrast ultrasound modality in the other fields.

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy

Book Description
The medical treatment and education of children with cerebral palsy is complex and involves a diverse range of professionals. Moreover, there are a number of different approaches for treating pediatric musculoskeletal impairments, such as therapy, orthotics, and surgery. Dr. Miller's valuable resource helps members of the medical team navigate the complexity of cerebral palsy care. Readers will become familiar with treatments that fall outside of their own disciplines while also benefiting from a review of current practices in their own fields. This comprehensive reference outlines the etiology of cerebral palsy and presents a description of muscle tone and movement problems. Dr. Miller discusses the theory and techniques used by physical and occupational therapists, and he provides suggestions for implementing an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Since the text focuses on improving decision making, recommended treatment algorithms address common questions, such as how to select equipment. Comprehensive coverage of understanding abnormal gaits, as well as the use of braces and wheel chairs, is incorporated into the text. Surgeons will especially appreciate the section that focuses on anatomy and describes surgeries and specific local treatments. Chapters are enhanced by beautiful anatomical drawings depicting key techniques. A companion CD-ROM includes videos of children with walking problems and more than 400 interactive study questions.
